D.K. Johnston has been studying film production since he received his first camcorder at age 10. Over the last decade he has taken part in the production of several feature length projects, numerous short films, reality programming and commercial productions in Alaska and California. In 2008 D.K. relocated to Los Angeles, CA where he attended the New York Film Academy MFA program. There he studied directing and screenwriting for film and television, and worked to write and direct eight short films under the Tri-Seven Pictures name. In 2010 D.K. returned to Alaska and has continued to work around the state on various independent projects. D.K. has also been working with the Anchorage School District, UAA, UAF, and APU to help develop and promote educational resources for aspiring filmmakers in the state. Today he is on the board of the Alaska Film Group. D.K. also sits on the educational advisory board for King Career Center’s Film, Radio & Television Production course, and ASD’s Career Technology Education program. Most recently D.K. has worked as 2nd AD and 2nd2nd AD for feature films and is continuing maintain the “Alaska Filmmakers” network highlighting special events and the various talented individuals working in the Alaska Film Community.
