I met D.K. Johnston when I traveled to Los Angeles to premiere our film at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Our Alaskan company was producing a documentary following our experience at the festival and introduction to the L.A. scene. With all the mayhem the festivities would provide, we knew we were going to need a hand organizing our production. D.K. came highly recommended from our director of photography and when we hired him to help with field production he lived up to his reputation. D.K. was an important asset in our documentary and helped behind the scenes with everything from being a floor producer to pickup shots. D.K. operated with refined professionalism while maintaining a positive, fun attitude that carried our crew through the intense week. As we move forward with our upcoming feature we hope to have the opportunity to bring D.K. Johnston to Alaska and put his producing skills to work for us again! It was a real pleasure.

I had D.K. Johnston recommended to me over the course of a couple years as an invaluable crew member. When I was looking for an Assistant Director for a feature film in development, D.K. Johnston was brought on. Working independently, more than two thousand miles from the production office, he delivered schedules and breakdowns on time and exceeded my expectations. He brings passion to a project, and is able to grasp the director’s vision very quickly, bringing ideas to the table when asked, and working very well with the other members of the production team. I would not hesitate to bring Mr. Johnston onto any project in the future, he has proved he is an invaluable asset.

Working with D.K. on “Cause for Divorce” was such a joy. It’s so rare to work with someone who can talk to their actors and relate to both the characters they are portraying and to the actors themselves and that is definitely a quality that he has. He will go far in his career.

D.K. Johnston is THE name to watch in this generation of young filmmakers. He’s got vision, talent, creativity, passion and excellent communication skills. He’s dedicated to treating everyone he works with respectfully and fairly. His brain is bursting with cool ideas for films and when he realizes his visions, they’re even more awesome than he first imagined. I have had the pleasure of working with him on four projects now and each experience has been amazing.
Christy Carew – Composer – “Alaska Filmakers”, “Alaska Wet Dog Race”, “Cause for Divorce”, “The Cypherian” & “B-O-M-B”

For a filmmaker who takes such great pains to create the characters he puts on screen, D.K. Johnston is very free handed on set and open to everything an actor might suggest or want to lend to a role. This is probably because he spends such a substantial amount of time in table reads, as well as casting, to make sure everyone is as well acquainted with the material and invested in the character(s) they will be portraying as he is. D.K. is very easy to talk to and always makes time for everyone on his set. You are never unimportant when you are part of his film making team. Even when things aren’t going as smoothly as they could be on-set or otherwise, as an actor, I never know it. D.K. has great respect for the actor’s process. I’ve never felt the time crunch when working with him on a film. He creates relationships with his cast and crew that last and for good reason. When I start work on a project with D.K. I’m excited to do so because even if I don’t have to be there for all of it, I know he will see it through to a quality end.

D.K. Johnston is easily one of the most competent, collaborative and clear-thinking directors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He knows what he wants in a scene, sees it clearly and doesn’t take a lot of unnecessary shots – making the entire process smooth, easy and efficient for everyone. D.K. has the ability to assemble a crew and really get them working together as a team, with everyone giving their best effort to create the finest product possible – and the results speak for themselves. In addition, he is fun to work with and has a great sense of humor, and being on his set is always a joy. I can speak for the cast and crew when I say we actually LIKE the guy. I would be happy to work with D.K. again any time, and I am quite sure he has a big future in this business. Best of luck D.K.!

Every time I’ve worked with D.K., he has never let me down. A true team player, no matter how hard and strenuous the set, he never slows down or loses his sheer optimistic drive. Passionate to the core when it comes to all things movies, D.K Johnston is definitely someone I love having on my roster – I know he’ll be there, prompt and ready for whatever me and the production throw at him. People with good, stable heads on their shoulders are hard to find these days, but D.K happens to be one of those ‘good head on his shoulders’ kind of guys who I will continue to work with for a long time.
